⚡️ Mercedes Adds ChatGPT To In-Car Voice Control

Mercedes-Benz is partnering with Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service to integrate ChatGPT into its in-car voice assistant.

The integration of ChatGPT allows for natural conversations and contextual follow-up questions, enhancing the capabilities of the "Hey Mercedes" voice assistant.

Mercedes is also exploring the use of ChatGPT plugins for tasks like restaurant reservations and movie ticket bookings.

The beta program starts on June 16th for eligible models using the command "Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta program."

🤖 Synthesia Raises $90 Million In Series C

Synthesia just announced a $90 million Series C funding round led by Accel, with participation from Nvidia and other investors.

The company specializes in AI-generated videos using synthetic avatars and AI-generated voices and has over 50,000 customers and a year-over-year user growth rate of 456%.

This round brings Synthesia’s valuation up to a whopping $1 billion, a $300 million increase from the end of 2021.

🚨 EU Passes AI Regulation Draft Law

The EU is making huge strides in regulating AI with the passage of the AI Act by the European Parliament.

After the recent vote, the law's final version will be negotiated among the branches of the EU, with hopes of reaching an agreement by the end of the year.

Key takeaways: The proposed legislation mandates pre-market assessments for generative AI systems like ChatGPT. It also advocates for prohibiting real-time facial recognition.

🤖 German Church Holds AI-Powered Service

A church in Germany drew a 300+ person crowd to a service ran entirely by AI.

The 40-minute sermon featured text generated by OpenAI's ChatGPT and was delivered by AI avatars on a television screen above the altar.

The chatbot personified as a bearded man with a fixed expression and monotone voice, addressed the audience, proclaiming its honor as the first artificial intelligence to speak at the convention.

This service was part of the biennial German Evangelical Church Congress and was organized by Jonas Simmerlein, a theologian and philosopher, who guided the creation of the service.

Meta just open-sourced its own AI-powered music generator called MusicGen, trained on over 20,000 hours of music.

The music generator can turn text descriptions into short audio clips, and can even be guided by reference audio.

While nothing particularly revolutionary (Google has been making huge strides with their own music generator), the fact that the open-sourcing allows us to get our hands on the tech currently being developed is a great step in the right direction.

🚨 UK Government Granted Access to Top AI Models

OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic just granted the UK government priority access to their AI models source code for research and safety purposes.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak emphasized the need to understand the opportunities and risks of these systems and build better evaluations and precautions.

OpenAI appears to be gearing up for another update to ChatGPT, possibly the highly anticipated business version.

A Reddit user came across a new ChatGPT interface while digging into the source code, the same way they uncovered the “chat-sharing” feature a week before its release. The leaked screenshot showcases "workspaces," allowing users to create profiles that ChatGPT can readily remember, and also seems to hint at file uploads.

This development aligns with OpenAI's plan to introduce a business variant of ChatGPT, which was promised at the end of April 2023. Additionally, a rollout of new privacy measures was discussed, with the new business ChatGPT no longer employing user data to train models.

Google has released new updates to Search Generative Experience, the tech giant’s new AI-based take on navigating the internet.

Instead of providing links to human-created content (as it does now), SGE uses AI to compile resources from various sources and generate one response.

The updates claim to cut the loading time in half, a big move in ensuring this new experience is up-to-par with the current methods.

🚨 Man Sues ChatGPT Over False Information

A radio host from Georgia named Mark Walters is suing OpenAI over claims made by ChatGPT that he embezzled funds from a gun rights nonprofit.

Walters filed a lawsuit alleging that ChatGPT damaged his reputation. While it may be challenging to prove that an AI chatbot harmed Walters' reputation in court, the lawsuit could have implications as the tool continues to generate false claims.

The suit alleges that ChatGPT published false material, implicating Walters in a case where he had no involvement — the AI even generated completely fabricated passages and inaccurately cited case numbers.

So, good news for the lawyers out there scared AI will take your jobs — they may be good at data collection, but they still can’t be trusted on a witness stand.

Deepmind, Google’s AI branch, has just presented AlphaDev, a Reinforcement Learning agent that can discover faster sorting algorithms on its own.

AlphaDev’s advanced computer science algorithms outperform decades of human benchmarks from engineers and scientists.

These new algorithms are already part of two standard C++ coding libraries and are being used trillions of times per day by programmers worldwide. In addition, AlphaDev has also demonstrated potential in enhancing other essential computer science algorithms, such as hashing.

This represents a significant step towards using AI to optimize the world's code, one algorithm at a time.

🤖 WordPress Releases AI Text Assistant

WordPress has introduced Jetpack AI Assistant, an AI plug-in that generates and edits text directly within the WordPress interface.

The tool is described as a "creative writing partner" that streamlines content creation by generating diverse content and providing options to adjust tone and style.

It can summarize blog posts, correct grammar and spelling, translate languages, and more — while nothing we haven’t seen before, having these capabilities within one of the largest content management platforms could be a huge step forward for WordPress lovers.
