🤖 Opera Unveils “Aria,” The AI Browser Sidebar
Opera has unveiled its latest innovation, the AI side panel called “Aria.” Powered by OpenAI’s GPT technology, the new browser sidekick helps users:
Find information on the web
Generate text, including code
Provide support about the browser itself (it has access to internal docs)
Maybe most important, however, is the fact that Aria is constantly fed new information - meaning no more limited to 2021 messages (looking at you, ChatGPT).
Try it for yourself here
Fun fact: Aria’s first task… was to name itself.

📹️ Google’s Flamingo VLM Fixes YouTube Shorts
In a recent move, Google has merged DeepMind and Google Brain into a unified AI supergroup, called… Google DeepMind. Quite the name.
The team has shared insights into its visual language model (VLM) called Flamingo, which is being utilized to generate descriptions for YouTube Shorts.
Flamingo analyzes the initial frames of a video to generate text descriptions, enabling better categorization and matching of search results to viewer searches.
The generated descriptions are stored as metadata and remain behind the scenes, aligning with Google's responsibility standards. Because, you know, data.
Since YouTube shorts are usually made quickly, helpful titles are often a second thought for creators. Flamingo seeks to fix this issue and make search relevance a focal point moving forward.
📈 Nvidia Earnings Skyrocket Stock Price
Nvidia, the US chipmaker and force behind the Bitcoin-mining-GPU-goldrush, has released a revenue forecast (that soared past Wall Street’s expectations) due to increased demand for chips used to train advanced AI systems like ChatGPT.
The company expects sales to reach $11 billion in the next three months, more than 50% higher than analysts' projections.
The announcement led to a significant surge in Nvidia's stock price, with shares jumping 27% and the company's market value hitting a record $960 billion.
The expanding use of generative AI across consumers, cloud computing, and enterprise sectors, along with the explosion of sales to data centers, has done wonders for the company’s growth.
Anyone getting $GME flashbacks?

🤖 The First AI Robot Officially Entered the Workforce
The robotics startup 1X, backed by OpenAI, just outpaced Elon Musk's Tesla, winning the race to deploy the first humanoid robot in a professional environment.
Their EVE robot has been integrated as a security guard in an android manufacturing site, propelling surveillance into an entirely new dimension.
The robots have advanced monitoring systems such as cameras, alarm sensors, and motion detectors. But here’s the craziest part: if an android misbehaves, it can enter its body through virtual reality and take control.
The agility of the EVE Robot is astonishing. It can open doors and windows, seize objects, and perform tasks similar to humans.
Prepare for a world where humans and robots work together, hand-in-hand. It’s coming.

No, not quite! But by using these tools, many beginner designers will be able to unlock design at an advanced level.
🚨 OpenAI Released the ‘Governance of Superintelligence‘
OpenAI just dropped a fascinating new article. It takes a deep dive into the ‘Governance of Superintelligence’ - future AI systems on track to outshine even AGI.
Here's a rundown of the key insights:
Collaboration is key: Coordinating among top development efforts is crucial.
International oversight: The idea of an international authority, like the IAEA, is floating around.
Beyond building: Building Superintelligence isn't the endgame. We also need the technical capacity to ensure safety.
Public involvement: Governance of high-power AI systems should have substantial public oversight.
Irreversible progress: Despite risks, stopping the creation of Superintelligence isn't a feasible or desirable option.
In sum, we're looking at a future that's as challenging as it is promising, and the stakes have never been higher.
One thing is sure: the world will look completely different in the next few years.

📈 AI is Fueling the Stock Market
A handful of stocks are spearheading the S&P 500's impressive 9% rally this year, and you guessed it – they're mostly at the heart of the AI mania, thanks to our beloved chatbot, ChatGPT.
Here’s the kicker: if you excluded AI stocks, the S&P 500 would be down over 1% (according to Societe Generale).
Stocks on the rise:
Microsoft (MFST) has surged over 32% this year, with their partnership with OpenAI and their AI-enhanced Bing.
Nvidia (NVDA), whose chips are fundamental to the AI boom, has soared 110% this year.
Global X Robotics & Artificial Intelligence ETF (BOTZ.O) is up nearly 30% this year.
Goldman Sachs pundits estimate that generative AI (like our friend ChatGPT) could boost S&P 500 companies' profit margins by around 4 percent over a decade after widespread adoption.

🚨 Global Leaders Collaborate for AI Governance
The G7, or Group of Seven, an assembly of world leaders from seven of the world's leading economies, met in Hiroshima, Japan, on Friday. The leaders acknowledged the need for governance of AI and immersive tech.
They’re calling this governance the “Hiroshima AI process,” set to roll out later this year, which is poised to facilitate a critical international conversation.
We’re living in a time where AI chatbots like ChatGPT are quickly reshaping our digital landscape, and everyone and their dogs agree that a discussion around risks such as job losses and the spread of misinformation is crucial.
🧬 AI Uncovers Rare DNA Sequences
AI hype isn't just chatbots anymore. Researchers at UC San Diego are leveraging AI to study the core functions of our genes. They're diving deep into gene activation, a fundamental process in growth, development, and disease.
Harnessing the power of machine learning, they've identified rare "synthetic extreme" DNA sequences. The race is on to uncover these sequences, and if they're out there, AI is our best bet to find them, according to Professor James Kadonaga.
Why should you care? Well, imagine a world where we can more effectively treat various diseases or refine gene editing methods simply by understanding how genes are switched on or off.
With this research, we're on the cusp of transforming the comprehension of our own genetic code, which will have massive implications for health, medicine, and potentially even our lifespan. The AI and healthcare revolution has just begun.

🤖 OpenAI Launches Free ChatGPT iOS App
OpenAI is on a roll with back-to-back ChatGPT announcements. Hot off the press is the official ChatGPT iOS app, with promises of an Android app coming soon.
But that's not all. The free-to-use ChatGPT app comes packed with extra features that outshine its browser version.
For starters, it incorporates Whisper, OpenAI's speech-to-text model. Say goodbye to the hassle of typing – ChatGPT just said “Cya 👋“ to Siri. Additionally, they've added a handy history search bar, so you can quickly locate and review all your old chats.
The app is only available in the US, but they plan to roll it out to other countries shortly.
Considering ChatGPT's skyrocketing popularity (100 million users in just a couple of months), it was only a matter of time. And the best part? We can finally say RIP to all the ChatGPT knock-offs littering the app store.

Alongside this bombshell reveal, Meta also announced their vision of designing a next-gen data center optimized for AI, and continued to hype their Research SuperCluster, claiming that it’s one of the world's fastest AI supercomputers.
While Microsoft and Google fight for AI supremacy, Meta has stealthily assembled an impressive AI arsenal. Stay tuned, the AI hardware wars have just begun.
🍎 Apple Bans Employees From Using ChatGPT
While most companies are going all in on AI, Apple seems to be doing the contrary. According to the WSJ, Apple just banned certain employees from using AI tools such as ChatGPT, with concerns of potential confidential data leaks.
This move, while understandable, seems a bit odd. OpenAI recently introduced a feature that allows users to turn off chat history, which prevents the AI model from training on that data.
Apple has been very cautious in their approach toward adopting and applying AI. This is a huge reminder that while AI has the potential to revolutionize how we work, we can’t overlook the need to protect sensitive information.

🔥 OpenAI Launches a New ChatGPT Feature
The folks over at OpenAI just updated ChatGPT with an extremely helpful feature that was, quite frankly, a little overdue.
This feature introduces a fresh "Continue generating" button alongside the customary "Regenerate response" button. The function eliminates the need to type "continue" for lengthier responses and inputs.
The future generations will never understand the early hardships us OG’s went through. One day we can tell our kids that back in our days, we had to type ‘continue.‘ They probably won’t believe us.

🧑⚖️ Sam Altman Testifies Before Senate
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and other industry leaders just testified on artificial intelligence before a Senate Committee hearing.
The hearing was a three-hour-long rollercoaster ride. But if there was one juicy bit to take away, it's this- everybody and their dog agrees that AI needs regulation. But here's the kicker- it’s such a complex problem that no one really knows how to approach it yet.
Sam Altman also dropped a bombshell. The guy owns NO equity in OpenAI and only gets a paycheck that covers his health insurance costs. If that's true, he must really love his job!
For those of you interested in all the nitty-gritty, you can watch the full hearing here. But if you're like us and prefer the rundown, our favorite AI YouTuber, Matt Wolfe, has got you covered with a neat recap here. Enjoy!
🤖 AI Robots Have Arrived
Sanctuary AI, a Vancouver-based robotics firm, has just revealed Phoenix, their humanoid robot designed for the workforce.
This 5'7" robot, weighing 155 pounds, features complex hands that emulate human dexterity. Capable of lifting up to 55 pounds and moving at three miles per hour, Phoenix's practical abilities have been demonstrated in a week-long pilot at a retail store where it performed tasks ranging from merchandise packing to cleaning and tagging.
Just hours after Phoenix's reveal, Tesla's humanoid robot Optimus also made its presence known with their first tweet.
The robots are coming, folks. The potential of humanoid robots like Phoenix is genuinely incredible but also scary at the same time.
🧬 Revolutionizing Healthcare With AI
Hippocratic AI is building AI-powered tools such as their safety-first large language model (LLM) to replace WebMD and empower patients with safe, aligned AI medical expertise at their fingertips.
Co-founded by a team of physicians, hospital administrators, Medicare professionals, and AI researchers, the AI startup just secured $50 million in seed funding from General Catalyst and Andreessen Horowitz.
CEO Munjal Shah emphasizes that Hippocratic's AI outperforms leading models like GPT-4 and Claude in over 100 healthcare certifications.
Hippocratic now has the money AND the manpower to create a revolutionary product. It’s going to be fun watching this one develop!
🎓 Texas A&M Prof Fails Every Student For Using AI
In this shocking Reddit post, a commerce professor at Texas A&M apparently just FAILED every student in his entire class of seniors, blocking them all from graduating.
Why? Because he believed the students used ChatGPT to complete several assignments.
The original poster (OP) shared an email from the professor explaining that he had used his own ChatGPT account to check the students' assignments. If the AI claimed to have generated the content, the students were given a zero grade.
However, the professor misunderstood how ChatGPT works. The AI is not designed to detect if the content was AI-generated, and it tends to say "Yes, I wrote that text" to virtually any text you present.

🤖 OpenAI Plans to Launch an Open-Sourced LLM
OpenAI is planning to launch its first open-sourced language model to the public, as first reported by The Information.
While most AI companies or “wrappers” are built on OpenAI’s GPT, open-source AI models have managed to come impressively close in performance while also being more cost-effective to train.
This could potentially compel Google to respond similarly, marking a significant victory for the open-source AI movement.
The spotlight is currently on Bard and ChatGPT, but the rise of open-source AI is noteworthy. It's not just a passing trend but a steadily growing force set to impact the future of artificial intelligence substantially.
🧠 AI Alzheimer’s Detection Using Smartphones
Researchers at the University of Alberta are developing a machine-learning model, accessible potentially through your smartphone, that can detect early signs of Alzheimer's dementia.
The results are already impressive, with the model detecting 70-75% accuracy between Alzheimer’s patients and healthy individuals.
This tool has the potential to encourage early treatment, slow the progression of the disease, and enhance telehealth services by overcoming linguistic or geographic barriers.
While we all talk about how AI is a massive threat to human civilization, it’s also important to note AI's remarkable strides in healthcare technology.
⚡️ Amazon’s AI-Powered Search Revealed
As suggested by this recent job posting, Amazon appears to be the latest tech giant diving into the AI revolution. The company hinted at revolutionizing Amazon Search with a new "interactive conversational experience."
A compelling quote from the job posting compares this opportunity to the digital revolution of the 90s— "If you missed the 90s—WWW, Mosaic, and the founding of Amazon and Google—you don’t want to miss this opportunity." This indicates that Amazon views these changes as potentially groundbreaking.
While the exact release date remains unknown, given the swift advancements in AI recently showcased by Google, Amazon is likely rushing to get into the AI frenzy as soon as possible.
