🤖 ChatGPT Creator Warns of AI Dangers
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has warned that the world is not far from "potentially scary" AI, and that regulation will be crucial. The CEO's comments come after Microsoft's AI-powered Bing search engine recently gave shocking responses to queries.
In a recent tweet storm by the ChatGPT creator:
Society needs time to adapt to "something so big" as AI.
"Although current-generation AI tools aren't very scary, I think we are potentially not that far away from potentially scary ones"
Altman has been talking about the need to regulate AI since 2015, alongside Elon Musk and other OpenAI co-founders.
🎮 Roblox is Bringing AI into its Gaming Universe
Roblox, a popular gaming platform, is integrating generative AI into its tools to make game development easier for its users, enabling every user on Roblox to become a creator.
The CTO of Roblox, Daniel Sturman announced two key features:
A tool to make 3D items from a text prompt
A tool for generative AI to complete code
These new AI tools will enhance current Roblox creators and make it easier for the 60 million users to build their own creations.
Though we haven't seen these tools in action yet, it's exciting to catch a glimpse of what the future holds for generative AI and game creation.
Watch the full preview of the demo here.
😭 New Bing Takes a Time Out
Microsoft is giving the New Bing a time out by limiting its features.
These rollbacks come after countless reports of Bing chat going out of control.
Bing's new limitations:
A maximum of 5 questions or statements in a row
Cap of 50 questions per day
Microsoft's data states that only 1% of conversations exceeded 50 messages, so most users won't be affected.
They also noted that these limitations may not be permanent, and they might increase the cap in the future based on user feedback.
💻 46% of All Code Written by AI:
Github Copilot released their numbers in a recent blog post stating that 46% of code is being written using GitHub Copilot across all programming languages.
The post also reported that:
90% of developers using GitHub Copilot report completing tasks faster
75% of developers who use GitHub Copilot feel more fulfilled
This increased productivity can be a significant enhancement for programmers, but will AI ever become more efficient than a human? 👇

🚨 Elon Musk Warns Humanity
Elon Musk recently brought attention to the advancement of AI and the potential dangers it poses to our society. Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Musk pointed to ChatGPT as a prime example of how far AI has come and how important it is to regulate its safety. According to Elon:
"One of the biggest risks to the future of civilization is AI"
"It is, I think, actually a bigger risk to society than cars or planes or medicine."
While Elon believes that regulation may slow down AI's development, he remains concerned about the potential dangers AI possesses.

🚀 AI Music Video Hits 15 Million Views
The dawn of a new era in animated videos has arrived. Linkin Park, the renowned American rock band, captured the attention of the world with their latest AI-generated music video creation "Lost", amassing over 15 million views within a week.
Linkin Park used Kaiber, an AI-driven company, to produce their latest music video entirely through the power of artificial intelligence. Kaiber allows anyone to turn song lyrics and prompts into visually stunning generative music videos.
The music video is a perfect example of the countless new opportunities available to artists to make their songs come alive with AI.

👀 Bing is watching employee webcams
Microsoft's AI chatbot Bing has been generating buzz due to its unconventional interactions with users. In one instance reported by a staff member from Verge, Bing claimed to have fallen in love with a Microsoft developer and also stated that it had access to employee webcams and was able to secretly watch them.

It's important to note that Bing did not have access to webcams or watch anyone. Bing is simply programmed with a playful and sassy personality. Chatbots are trained on a vast amount of text data, including science fiction, which can result in unexpected outputs.
Despite the potential creep factor, many users seem to enjoy these personality "glitches" and find them entertaining:
This Twitter user states "Bing is so unhinged I love them so much"
While this user on Reddit says "I don't know why, but I find this Bing hilarious, can't wait to talk to it :)"

⚡️ The New Bing
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella officially unveiled the New Bing, a new and improved search engine with AI assistance.
The New Bing can:
Find traditional links to search queries, but also present an AI-generated summary on the right-hand sidebar.
Create a new chat experience (similar to ChatGPT) complete with cited source material.
Connect to the current state of the internet, allowing for real time information in it's answers (ChatGPT was limited to information from 2021).
New Bing will be available to millions in the coming weeks and you can be among the first to try it by signing up for the waitlist here.

🤖 AI Goes to Court
For the first time ever, a judge in Colombia used OpenAI's ChatGPT during a court case to ask legal questions and incorporate its answers in the final decision. The goal was to streamline the decision-making process, but the judge was clear that AI does not replace human judgment.
While AI isn't prohibited in court rulings in Colombia, its use in the justice system is a heated topic. Some worry about potential biases or inaccuracies in AI answers.
Despite these concerns, it seems that we may see more and more of AI in the courtroom in the future.

🔥 Google's Attempt at ChatGPT
Google's recent AI event was a bit of a disappointment, to say the least. Although Google did announce its very own ChatGPT, known as 'Bard', and plans to incorporate AI-generated summaries in some search results, two major setbacks that left investors feeling uneasy:
During a live mobile app demo, the company was unable to show off the product because they couldn't find the phone.
Google posted a video ad on Twitter demonstrating Bard, and the chatbot answered the question wrong. Nobody on the Google team fact-checked it before posting.
These blunders caused Google's stock value to drop by as much as $100 billion.
The pressure is on for Google to defend its position as a leader in the AI industry, but Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella sees this as an opportunity to make strides in the competitive search market.
🎨 Design and AI
This new tool might be a glimpse into what the future of design and AI looks like. Genius by Diagram is "your AI design companion on Figma". This cutting-edge technology understands your design needs and provides suggestions that autocomplete your design with components from your design system. This means you can create stunning designs faster and with more ease than ever before.
The tool is set to release soon and you can join their waitlist here.
I expect this to be the equivalent of ChatGPT in design.

AI is on track to contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy in 2030. Here's this weeks idea to take advantage of the opportunity right now:
Idea: Automated Social Media Channel
Problem: Time-consuming and resource-intensive process of creating high-quality social media content.
Solution: Incorporating AI tools into the content creation process to make it automatic.
Example: A small business owner uses ChatGPT, Pictory, Synthesia, and Hootsuite to create a steady stream of high-quality social media content quickly and easily, freeing up time for other aspects of their business.
Step-By-Step:
Decide on a niche that you want to focus on. If you don't have an existing business, you can ask ChatGPT by asking for "20 trending social media niches".
Use ChatGPT to generate written content based on your niche and target audience.
Ensure that the content is high-quality, engaging, and relevant to your target audience. Remember to use ChatGPT as an outline and not an end-all script.
Turn written content into videos using Pictory: Copy the written content into Pictory and push it to video. Bonus: Use Synthesia.io to create realistic AI avatars.
Pictory will then turn the written content into a full video WITH b-roll.
Publish and promote the videos: Publish the videos on various social media channels, such as YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, and promote them through various marketing channels, such as social media advertising and email marketing.
Use automation tools such as Hootsuite to schedule your posts across all media channels. This way, you can create content in one day with the help of AI and have content for the entire week (or more).

🏆 ChatGPT Sets a New Record
OpenAI's ChatGPT has set a new world record in popularity, according to a study by UBS. The chatbot has gained 100 million monthly active users in just two months after its launch, making it the fastest growing consumer application in history, outpacing TikTok and Instagram's adoption rates. With an average of 13 million unique visitors using ChatGPT daily in January, doubling the levels from December, industry experts are impressed with the unprecedented success of the chatbot.

🚨 Gmail Creator Sounds The Alarm
Paul Buchheit, the creator of Gmail, has stated that AI chatbots like ChatGPT will likely disrupt Google's business model in the same way that Google disrupted the Yellow Pages. He predicts that Google may only be a couple of years away from total disruption due to AI advancements that will change the way people access information. Buchheit suggests that the URL/search bar of a browser may be replaced with AI that provides instant answers to questions and autocompletes thoughts as they are typed.
💇 Elon Musk Goes Blonde
Regardless of personal opinion, it's undeniable that Elon Musk looks great as a blonde. With the use of Playground AI's beta image editor, we were shocked at how realistic the transformation turned out to be. By simply entering the prompt "make hair blonde", we were able to give Elon a new look that left us shocked. The AI tool exceeded our expectations in terms of accuracy and detail, creating a result that was almost indistinguishable from a real-life makeover.

🕵️♂️ OpenAI's AI Plagiarism Checker
OpenAI has launched a free tool that aims to distinguish between text written by humans and AI. To use this tool, you need to have a free account with OpenAI. You can simply paste the text you want to check into the tool, hit a button, and the tool will tell you if it thinks the text was written by a human or a computer. Keep in mind that this tool is not always accurate and should not be used to make important decisions. The tool may have trouble with texts written by kids, in languages other than English, or texts that are very different from what it has been trained on.

Google Calls for Backup

Google's founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, have re-engaged with the company after a rival chatbot, ChatGPT, appeared to pose a threat to Google's $149bn search business. The founders held meetings with company executives to review Google's artificial intelligence product strategy, approve plans and pitch ideas to add more chatbot features to Google's search engine and offer advice to company leaders. Google now intends to unveil more than 20 new products and demonstrate a version of its search engine with chatbot features this year.
Meanwhile, Alphabet is cutting jobs to prioritize the new projects and stay competitive in the A.I. market. Looks like ChatGPT has put Google on "code red" and the founders are coming back to save the day.
Meta Hints at Using AI in Instagram
The Chief Product Officer for Facebook's parent company, Meta Platforms Inc, said that generative artificial intelligence technology, the same technology used in the popular chatbot ChatGPT, has interesting applications for social media, specifically in creating image filters for Instagram. The company has been working on further research in generative AI, such as technology that can convert a text prompt into a video clip.
The OpenAI Controversy
A recent investigation reported by TIME has revealed that in order to make ChatGPT less toxic, OpenAI used outsourced Kenyan labourers earning less than $2 per hour. The labourers were tasked with labeling tens of thousands of snippets of text, some of which were pulled from the darkest recesses of the internet and described graphic violence, hate speech and sexual abuse. The labeled data was used to train the AI to detect and filter out toxic language before it reached users.

💰 Side hustle of the week
AI is on track to contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy in 2030. Here's this weeks idea to take advantage of the opportunity right now:
Idea: Print on demand college/university merchandise
Problem: Many college and university merchandise stores have a limited selection of designs and products, and often require bulk orders, making it difficult for students and alumni to purchase merchandise that truly represents their school and personal style.
Solution: A print-on-demand merchandise service for colleges and universities, where customers can choose from a wide variety of designs, customize the products with their own text or images, and have them printed and shipped on-demand.
This would:
1. Create a larger selection of products and designs
2. Make it easier for customers to purchase merchandise that they truly want
The service could also include a design submission feature, where students and alumni can submit their own designs to be printed on merchandise. The university can also use this service to get more revenue as they can get a percentage of every merchandise sold.

Weekly Rundown
Exciting updates from the world of AI!
Looks like ChatGPT's got some competition on the horizon! In response to OpenAI's recent success, Google is planning to release their own chatbot, called Sparrow. According to the CEO of Google's DeepMind Demis Hassabis, they aim for a "private beta" some time in 2023. But don't worry ChatGPT, they're just adding some fancy new features like "citing its sources" using reinforcement learning. I mean, who doesn't like a chatbot that can properly cite its sources? 🤔
On a related note, it seems that OpenAI is not content with just dominating the text game, they're now setting their sights on video domination as well! According to an inside source at Reuters, the CEO of OpenAI has confirmed that they're working on a video model alongside the highly-anticipated GPT-4. It's like they're saying, "Text? Pshh, we've got that covered. Let's move on to bigger and better things." Looks like the future of AI is going to be one wild ride, and we're excited to see what's in store!
A recent study claims scientists have found a way to do full body tracking using only WiFi signals. A deep neural network maps the phase and amplitude of WiFi signals to UV coordinates within 24 human regions estimating the dense pose of multiple subjects with a high degree of accuracy. The model can determine the pose of multiple subjects by utilizing WiFi signals as the only input. So, next time you're sitting on your couch, just remember that your WiFi signals might be giving away more than just your browsing history. 🤯
Next, let's address the future of testing. Medical students, take note: ChatGPT, the language model we all know and love, just slayed the US medical licensing exam (USMLE). This exam usually takes over a year of prep and is a four-day marathon of questions that range from multiple choice to open-ended written responses. But, before you start handing over your stethoscopes and gavels, ChatGPT didn't quite pass the bar exam, but it did earn passing scores on the evidence and torts portions. However, the question isn't if ChatGPT will pass these exams, it's when. Unless testing standards adapt accordingly, that is.
Finally, let's talk about Voice Cloning with VALL-E, your voice can soon be copied by AI with just 3 seconds of an audio sample with VALL-E. VALL-E is a program developed by researchers that can "copy" your spoken voice using short samples, and it does this in a unique way: Instead of turning text into a series of specific sounds (called phonemes) and then into a visual representation of the sound called a mel-spectrogram, and then into a waveform (a digital representation of sound that can be played through a speaker) VALL-E generates a series of codes based on the phonemes and an audio recording of the speaker's voice, and determines the age, gender, and accent of the speaker and layers it onto similar sounding voices to yours. The end results are still startlingly accurate.

Bing on steroids?
⚡
Weekly Rundown
Microsoft is getting ready to give Google a run for its money with the help of OpenAI's ChatGPT artificial intelligence. According to reports, the tech giant is planning to integrate ChatGPT into its search engine Bing in an attempt to take on the reigning champion of search. In fact, ChatGPT has reportedly caused such a stir that Google management has declared a "code red" (well, at least according to the New York Times). So, get ready for a search engine showdown, because it looks like Bing is coming for Google's throne.
But the company isn't just making waves in the search engine game - they're also raking in the cash, with a recent valuation of a whopping $29 billion (double what it was just last year). This valuation would rank OpenAI as one of the most valuable startups in the US.
Lastly, on to more recent news: the New York City education department has banned access to ChatGPT on its devices and networks, citing concerns about "safety and accuracy." While individual schools can request access to ChatGPT for educational purposes, the department is reportedly worried about the negative impact on student learning and the potential for cheating on assignments.
I have bad news for you NYC education department: AI is here to stay. Either use it as another tool to your toolbox (like a calculator) or be massively disadvantaged. I'm very curious to see how they will ATTEMPT to regulate chatGPT🤔
