  • 🚨 Sam Altman on AI: Potential pitfalls and harnessing potential

  • 🎥 Text-to-video is here (sort of): Breakthrough for generative AI

  • 🎉 Today's giveaway: 500+ best ChatGPT prompts

🎉 Exciting news:

Due to the recent rapid advancements, we've realized that our bi-weekly emails aren't enough to cover all the important news.

We're thrilled to announce that we're increasing the frequency to 5 times a week, from Monday to Friday. As always, our updates will be and always will remain free.

This will allow us to cover all the significant AI updates, while maintaining our commitment to concise and digestible content.

A massive thank you to our readers for your ongoing support – this expansion wouldn't be possible without you!

Now, let's dive into today's newsletter, shall we?

🚨 Sam Altman on AI

In a recent ABC News interview, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman discussed the potential pitfalls of AI.

We found two quotes particularly impactful:

  1. On AI taking jobs: "It is going to eliminate a lot of current jobs, that's true. We can make much better ones." [full video here]

  2. His motivation for developing AI: "In terms of impact on our lives and improving our lives and upside, this will be the greatest technology humanity has yet developed" [full video here]

Sam did an excellent job in this interview by acknowledging AI's challenges but also highlighting AI's potential to revolutionize industries and improve countless lives.

🎥 Text-To-Video is Here (sort of)

The first-ever open-sourced text-to-video model is out, and it's, well, interesting

The model, available here to try on Hugging Face, is trained on a whopping 1.7 billion parameters

We think it's "interesting" because it appears as if the model was actually trained on videos from Shutterstock. A lot of videos that it produces, have Shutterstock watermarks written across them.

For example, check out this Twitter post where someone created their own Star Wars movie clip using this model.

While it's incredible that text-to-video is here, our excitement feels somewhat damped by the fact that there are Shutterstock watermarks all over it. However, this is a giant leap forward, and we can expect even better text-to-video models very soon.

👁️ GPT-4 For Greater Accessibility

Be My Eyes, an app that allows blind and low-vision individuals to seek assistance from sighted people has just launched their new "Virtual Volunteer" feature.

The feature is the first to integrate the new image-to-text generator powered by OpenAI's brand-new GPT-4.

Users can soon send images to the AI-powered Virtual Volunteer, who provides instant identification, interpretation, and conversational visual assistance for various tasks.

We slid into Be My Eyes CEO Mike Buckley's DM's on Twitter, and he generously shared some never-seen-before exclusive access to the current use of GPT-4's image-to-text model:

The images he sent us were incredible, to say the least. GPT-4 was able to detect content from a TV screen from a small corner of an image and translate it in real time to another language.

Be My Eyes remains one of our favorite AI companies, demonstrating the powerful potential of AI for the greater good. We look forward to providing ongoing coverage of their progress.

🤖 GPT-4 Makes History

In case you were living under a rock all week: GPT-4 is here, and it's incredible.

Here's the rundown:

  • It made history as the first-ever AI model that can 'see.' GPT-4 can describe, analyze and perform tasks from pictures. Watch this demo of it turning a sketch into a fully functional website.

  • It's much more intelligent than GPT-3.5. The new model performs in the 90th percentile across multiple exams.

  • It can handle 25,000+ words from the previous 3,000 in GPT-3.5.

  • It's available in ChatGPT for premium users, and on Bing Chat

Since the launch on Tuesday, a handful of companies including Bing, Milo, BeMyEyes, Intercom, Khan Academy, and even the Government of Iceland, have disclosed that they had early access and have been building using GPT-4 all along.

We can expect a wave of new incredible AI products in the coming weeks, and you'll get the news here first, before everyone else (we won't be sleeping 🙃).

Here's a list of some incredible things already being built with GPT-4.

🤖 GPT-4 rumours continue

Rowan Cheung • 4 minutes

In today's rundown:

  • 🥁 GPT-4 rumours continue: Possible reveal date

  • 🚗 GM's new ChatGPT-like assistant: ChatGMT?

  • 🚨 Hong Kong University bans ChatGPT: Use ChatGPT, get expelled

  • 🎉 Today's giveaway: 200 AI startup ideas

Read time: 4 minutes

🥁 GPT-4 Rumours Continue

In our last email, we covered that the CTO of Microsoft Germany said that GPT-4 would be coming next week, as reported by this news source

If you missed it, the main hype surrounding it is that it will be multimodal, meaning it can turn text-to-video

Recently, though, there have been some more rumours spreading. Some AI enthusiasts suspect Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella may be making massive announcements at Microsoft's special event, “Reinventing productivity with AI,” on March 16th (Thursday) at 8 AM PST.

The event will be broadcast live here (bookmark it!), and millions will watch for the possible reveal!

While it is possible that this is the launch of GPT-4 (we hope), it's also possible that it could be an expected announcement of AI in Microsoft's 365 apps (Word, Powerpoint, and Excel).

🚗 GM's New ChatGPT-like Assistant

As per an article by Semafor, General Motors is developing a virtual personal assistant for its vehicles similar to ChatGPT.

The voice-activated chatbot will run on Microsoft's Azure cloud service, which has exclusive rights to OpenAI's technology.

The AI assistant will be able to answer questions such as how to change a flat tire or what a specific diagnostic light on the dashboard means

It will be interesting following this one. If implemented safely, it could enhance the overall driving experience for most.

🚨 Hong Kong University Bans ChatGPT

The University of Hong Kong has released guidelines stating that students who use AI tools, including ChatGPT, without proper authorization may be expelled.

The university is creating its own AI plagiarism detection software that can analyze students' work to detect originality.

The penalties for academic dishonesty involving AI tools include:

  • Complete review of assessments

  • A failing grade and lower degree classification

  • Suspension and or expulsion

This goes completely against the direction of Wharton University professor Ethan Mollick, who is embracing ChatGPT as a requirement for his class.

See his class policy.

🚨 GPT-4 is Coming

Breaking: a news source just revealed that GPT-4 is coming next week and will be multimodal, including video features.

Here's the rundown:

  • GPT-4 will be multimodal, meaning it can translate text into images, music, and video.

  • The source stated that this came from the CTO of Microsoft Germany, Andreas Braun, at an information event, "AI in Focus - Digital Kickoff."

  • The technology has come so far that it basically "works in all languages."

While we don't know how reliable this source is quite yet, we do know that GPT-4 is coming sometime in 2023, and it's bound to shake up the industry.

If GPT-3/ChatGPT were the iPhone 1's of AI development, we're at the cusp of the next technological revolution.

💥 Microsoft Did The Impossible

null

Microsoft did the impossible. They made everyone want to use Bing.

In a recent blog post, Microsoft announced they crossed 100M daily active users on Bing, just one month after they announced the AI-integrated chatbot in the New Bing.

More stats revealed that the launch of Bing's AI chatbot on mobile has led to a six-time increase in daily active users.

Previously, ChatGPT shattered the record of achieving 100M daily active users in 2 months. While Bing technically didn't break this record as these AI features were injected into the already established project, increasing daily active users by sixfold in one month is still massively impressive.

💰 Business Idea of the day

AI is on track to contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy in 2030. Here is today's idea to take advantage of the opportunity right now:

Idea: Text to t-shirt generation business.

Problem: People struggle to find unique, personalized t-shirts that reflect their styles and personalities.

Solution: A text-to-t-shirt generation business that allows customers to create custom t-shirts from an in-app image generator similar to Midjourney/DALL-E.

Example: A customer could go to the website and prompt the t-shirt generation tool to create a graphic from a prompt. The result is a one-of-a-kind t-shirt created using AI.

If the website gets enough users, there could also be an opportunity for a prompt marketplace for users wanting similar t-shirts that others have made.

🤖 ChatGPT Makes it on to South Park

South Park just previewed a banger episode of featuring our beloved ChatGPT.

The episode titled "Deep Learning", is premiering Wednesday, March 8, at 10:00p ET on Comedy Central.

In this small promo video, we got a glimpse of the episode in what appears to be Stan struggling in the dating world and turning to Clyde for help, only to be introduced to the one and only ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is going mainstream, FAST- first, the cover of TIME, then Vogue, and now Southpark.

🧬 AI Predicts Cancer Patient Survival

Researchers from the University of British Columbia and BC Cancer have developed an AI model to predict how long a person with cancer is likely to live.

Here's how:

  • It analyzes notes from previous doctor's visits (age, type of cancer, and health history).

  • It uses natural language processing to identify unique patient characteristics.

  • The model can then predict 6-month, 36-month, and 60-month survival with over 80% accuracy.

  • It can also predict survival for all types of cancer, not just a few specific types.

This AI technology is a huge breakthrough and could be applied in cancer clinics worldwide.

Dr. Nunez, the lead author, envisions AI as a virtual assistant for physicians in the future to improve patient care.

🧠 Hubspot Introduces ChatSpot.ai

Hubspot just joined the list of companies embracing the AI frenzy with their release of ChatSpot.ai. The tool uses artificial intelligence to build ChatGPT-like functionality into your HubSpot CRM.

It does this by combining several powerful technologies, including OpenAI's ChatGPT, HubSpot, DALL-E 2, Stable Diffusion, Google Workspace, and keyword research.

  • Write targeted and personal emails.

  • Receive a daily digest email with highlights of your team's progress and key metrics.

💰 Business Idea of the day

AI is on track to contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy in 2030. Here is today's idea to take advantage of the opportunity right now:

Idea: YouTube podcast summarization channel using AI

Problem: Listening to long podcasts can be time-consuming for individuals with busy schedules. People may miss out on important information due to the length of the podcast or may not have the time to listen to the entire episode.

Solution: Turn hour-long videos into 5-minute summaries with a narrated character. Use Summarize tech to summarize the podcast, paste the summarized podcast into Eleven Labs for a realistic voice, and then paste it into Synthesia to get your narrated character.

Example: User wants tech news but only has 5 minutes. They find your AI-powered YouTube channel and get the most important highlights from a 2-hour tech podcast in just 5 minutes.

Note: This idea can also be done with books, movies, blogs, and other long-form content.

🤖 ChatGPT and Whisper APIs are here

 • 4 minutes

In today's rundown:

  • 🚙 Driving into the future: Ford launches AI unit

  • 💻 AI just became 10x cheaper: ChatGPT and Whisper API's

  • 🐦 Potential benefits for AGI and humanity: Twitter's best insights

  • 💰 Unique business opportunity: Online cheating detection app

🚙 Driving Into The Future

Ford Motor Company just launched its AI unit, Latitude AI. The unit will be focused on developing an automated driving system for hands-free, "eyes-off-the-road driving."

The goal of Latitude AI is to advance the existing BlueCruise technology which has already accumulated a whopping 50 million miles of hands-free driving.

Ford aims to use AI technology to improve customer driving experience by introducing automation during often tedious, stressful, and unpleasant situations.

💻 AI Just Became 10x Cheaper

OpenAI made a massive move by dropping both the ChatGPT and Whisper API's simultaneously.

The new ChatGPT API will be 10x cheaper than previous GPT-3 models, making it a heaven for developers. Early users of the API include Snapchat, Quizlet, Instacart, Shopify, and Speak.

OpenAI has also released the ChatGPT playground. Similar to the original GPT-3 playground, developers can test out the model before implementing the API. You can access it here.

I expect many more companies and developers to begin implementing the technology into their apps. We're about to see a massive wave of new AI products in the near future.

💰 Business Idea of the Day

AI is on track to contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy in 2030. Here is today's idea to take advantage of the opportunity right now:

Idea: Online cheating detection app

Problem: As a result of the rise of online dating apps, online cheating can often go unnoticed, leading to suspicion and uncertainty in relationships.

Solution: An app that scans hinge, tinder, and all dating profiles to determine if your partner is cheating online. Similar to how Pimeyes can detect your photos across the internet.

Example: The app could alert the user if it detects suspicious behavior, such as frequent messages to a particular person, a sudden increase in app usage, or the creation of new dating profiles. This would provide the user with proof of their partner's infidelity.

Note: This app is a bit controversial. However, with the recent trend of Pimeyes and other detection services, an app of this nature is bound to happen.

🔥Musk Recruits Team to Develop ChatGPT Rival

Elon Musk is reportedly taking the lead in forming a new artificial intelligence research lab to develop an alternative to OpenAI's well-known chatbot, ChatGPT.

Musk was one of the original founders of OpenAI in 2015 but resigned all his ties in 2018 to avoid future conflicts with Tesla's AI production.

Recently, Musk expressed dissatisfaction with the safeguards currently in place that prevent ChatGPT from producing potentially offensive content.

To drive this effort, Musk has been approaching artificial intelligence researchers, including machine learning expert Igor Babuschkin, who previously worked at Google's DeepMind.

The lab may get integrated into Twitter, but it's also possible they will ultimately make it a stand-alone project.

Fun fact: Elon has twins with former OpenAI director Shivon Zilis

🤖 OpenAI is Planning for AGI

OpenAI published an article titled "Planning for AGI and Beyond," expressing their thoughts on the potential impact of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) on humanity.

Here's the TL;DR:

  • They acknowledge the exciting possibilities that AGI could bring and raise concerns about the risks.

  • AI usage should be maximized with caution, and the public should be consulted on major decisions.

  • To OpenAI, the transition to a world with superintelligence through AGI is the most significant project that humanity has ever undertaken.

Essentially, OpenAI recognizes that AGI has potential benefits and risks and aims to guide us in navigating its development with caution.

⚡️Amazon Joins the Chatbot Race

Amazon is joining the Chatbot race to compete against ChatGPT.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has expanded its partnership with AI startup Hugging Face to make Hugging Face’s language generation tool available to cloud customers as building blocks for their own applications.

  • Hugging Face will build the next version of its language model, 'BLOOM', on AWS.

  • They're also working on open-source rivals to OpenAI's ChatGPT, using AWS.

AWS customers can now access Hugging Face AI tools through Amazon’s SageMaker program, and Hugging Face’s developers can use Amazon’s cloud computing power and AI chips. More info here.

🤖 Microsoft is Testing ChatGPT in Robots

Microsoft researchers have published a paper revealing their testing of OpenAI's ChatGPT technology in robots. The goal is to extend the capabilities of ChatGPT into robotics and to make natural human-robot interactions possible.

The paper showcases the use of ChatGPT in controlling mechanical arms and drones to perform various tasks.

The researchers state:

  • “Our goal with this research is to see if ChatGPT can think beyond text”

  • They want to teach ChatGPT how to “solve problems considering the laws of physics"

The research is still in its early stages, but it will be thrilling to watch how it progresses and see where other AI and robotics applications lead.

🎧 Spotify Introduces AI

Spotify has introduced a new AI-powered feature called "DJ," which provides personalized music recommendations to users.

The feature uses OpenAI's generative AI and Sonantic's dynamic AI voice to create a unique music-listening experience. Here's how the magic works:

  1. DJ learns the user's music taste by analyzing their playlists and songs and provides a curated lineup of new and old songs that the user will likely enjoy.

  2. The recommendations improve as the user listens more.

  3. If the user doesn't like the current playlist, they can switch to a different genre, artist, or mood with just a tap of the DJ button (and DJ learns your dislikes)

It can be accessed through the Music Feed on Home in the Spotify mobile app and is currently only available for premium users in US & Canada.

💰 Business Idea of the Day

AI is on track to contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy in 2030. Here is today's idea to take advantage of the opportunity right now:

Idea: An HR Chatbot powered by GPT-3

Problem: HR departments in many organizations face a high volume of repetitive and time-consuming tasks. This can lead to HR staff becoming overwhelmed and not being able to effectively perform their other duties.

Solution: An HR Chatbot powered by GPT-3 automates these tasks and provides real-time, accurate information for tedious, common questions. This leaves HR departments to have time for more time-consuming, challenging tasks.

Example: An HR Chatbot could be integrated into a company's internal communication platform, like Slack, to answer simple employee questions on benefits and policies. This service could be offered on a subscription basis or for a fee.
