Happy Tuesday!
The whole world seems to be focused on the current duel between Elon and Zuck right now.
In the meantime, we’ve got some juicy AI advancements. Let’s get into it.
In today’s AI rundown:
🔒 Google intentionally limiting Bard AI's capabilities
🔥 AI wildfire detection startup expands $17M in funding
🤖 Gates-backed venture to unleash robotic geologists
🛠️ 5 New AI tools and 3 quick hits

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
🔒 Google intentionally limiting Bard AI's capabilities

The Rundown: Google CEO Sundar Pichai says Google is intentionally limiting Bard AI’s capabilities as he warns about the imminent ease of using AI to create deceptive “deepfake” videos of public figures.
Details:
Current AI models can already generate highly realistic images of public figures, blurring the line between fiction and reality
Video and audio fabrications are becoming more sophisticated by the day
Pichai said that Google does not always understand the answers Bard AI currently provides
Why it matters: AI misinformation and scams are already very real and will only worsen as AI continuously advances.
TOGETHER WITH COMMAND BAR
🦸♂️ Add AI superpowers to any site
The Rundown: CommandBar’s revolutionary User Assistance Platform lets any SaaS product embed AI superpowers.
Gain access to the same tool already in production in world-class products like Freshworks, Gusto, and Hashicorp.
A snippet and simple no-code config gives users:
Personalized assistant: hallucination-free, trained on your content
Natural language command palette: Users can carry out any action with simple prompts
Smart Nudges: Increase user engagement and encourage upgrades with strategically timed nudges
PANO AI
🔥 AI wildfire detection startup expands $17M in funding

The Rundown: Pano AI, an artificial intelligence startup, just raised a $17 million Series A extension to help save lives by detecting the early stages of wildfires.
Details:
The company mounts high-definition remote-controllable cameras in high-risk areas, with footage monitored by AI
The AI-powered technology can send firefighters to the scene several hours sooner compared to situations without its systems
Just last week, the company sent early warnings of the Kutch Road Fire, which broke out near Kutch Mountain in Yamhill County, Oregon
The extension round was led by Valor Equity Partners, and added a couple of strategic investors too; T-Mobile Ventures and Salesforce.
Our take: This is a prime example of using AI for the greater good of humanity. As the current wildfire crisis in Canada continues to worsen every year, using AI to help with early detection is a huge step in prevention.
GEOLOGICAI
🤖 Gates-backed venture to unleash robotic geologists

The Rundown: Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy Ventures (BEV) has invested $20 million in Calgary-based mining tech startup GeologicAI to build AI-powered robot geologists.
Key points:
GeologicAI was founded in 2013 to offer “rock analytics for modern mining”
GeologicAI’s technology can analyze rock samples and identify resources well below the Earth’s surface
The world is dealing with a mineral supply shortage due to a growing demand for clean energy technologies
The company's robots will help in the mining of both lithium and cobalt to help enable the clean energy transition
Why it matters: Given that the world will probably soon struggle with a significant mineral supply shortage (due to a growing demand for clean energy), Bill Gates’ funding comes at an ideal time.

CHARM
🧠 AI shows potential in treating brain cancer

The Rundown: An artificial intelligence tool called Cryosection Histopathology Assessment and Review Machine (CHARM) has demonstrated potential in assisting doctors with aggressive brain tumors by identifying critical characteristics to guide surgery.
Key points:
While not as accurate as current genetic tests, CHARM can predict a tumor's profile almost instantly, potentially allowing doctors to initiate appropriate treatment faster
It can quickly discern the genetic profile of a glioma tumor, a process that currently takes days or weeks
The quick identification could improve patient outcomes and reduce the need for multiple surgeries
Trained using machine learning, using images of samples collected during brain surgery
Can distinguish between malignant tumor cells and benign cells and identify a tumor's grade or aggressiveness
Why it matters: The option for almost instantaneous results is already a game changer. It’s hard to fathom where we’ll be in the next 10 years.

URTOPIA
⚡️ E-bikes are now infused with ChatGPT

The Rundown: Urtopia has unveiled its Fusion e-bike at EUROBIKE 2023, the first bike to integrate ChatGPT and built-in speakers to serve as a personal tour guide for riders.
Key points:
Riders can ask ChatGPT for information on potential sightseeing locations, local landmarks, and the history of sites
It currently can’t provide real-time updates or information about current events (since ChatGPT’s data is limited to 2021)
Features built-in GPS navigation, anti-theft measures, and safety and data record systems
Designed to deliver real-time assistance tailored to user needs and to function as a local city guide and a private tour guide
Our take: This is what we like to call a smart bike. Having access to a personal AI-infused tour guide while biking seems like the feature we didn’t know we needed until now.
MAYO CLINIC
⛑️ Mayo Clinic is using Google’s AI chatbot

The Rundown: Mayo Clinic has reported to be using Google’s medical AI chatbot, Med-PaLM 2, in hospital training since April 2023.
Details:
Med-PaLM 2 is a variant of PaLM 2, announced at Google I/O in May this year
In metrics such as evidence of reasoning, consensus-supported answers, and comprehension accuracy, Med-PaLM 2 has performed comparably to doctors
Customers testing Med-PaLM 2 retain control over their data, which is encrypted, and inaccessible to Google
According to Google's senior research director Greg Corrado, Med-PaLM 2 is still in its early stages and has the potential to expand the beneficial roles of AI in healthcare greatly
Why it matters: The endless possibilities for AI to enhance the healthcare industry are incredible. It’s truly the most exciting time to be alive.
